Integrated Institutional and land use planning of SAS Nagar (Mohali)

Institutional infrastructure is the part of the social infrastructure. It is one the important component of the social infrastructure. There is a strong relationship between the integrated institutional and land use planning.   The cooperation and mutuality between the institutional improvements and the land use development, which is well recorded in the history. There is a strong reciprocation between the residential areas, commercial areas, open spaces and institutional areas. Insipid of the factual influence of institution to land improvement and development, a great deal of uncertainty remains regarding the nature of the relationship in the modern world. As a new computer technique, GIS can provide powerful method for geospatial analysis, geospatial visualization and spatial statistics analysis.

This paper reflects on the link between land use and institutional areas, with particular attention on the relationship research with GIS. Firstly, current integrated researches on land use and institution are compiled. Integrated relationship analysis based on GIS is included. Problems existing in integrated research are concern and analyzed. Secondly, according these issues, spatial data management and interpretation, spatial analysis and integrate models database building on the links are explained in detail. Thirdly, the whole actions of GIS for the integrated relationship research are put to onward. In the end, a research cage of integrated relationship between land use and institutional areas of the city based on GIS is designed.
