Employee Ergonomics

G. Nivedita

Because of the automation and information technology revolution, jobs have changed dramatically.  Factory workers spend a great deal of time sitting or standing in one position - at computer terminals, control panels, and assembly lines.  Because of these problems, the number of workers with work-related musculoskeletal disorders or WMDs is increasing, as are the associated workers’ compensation and medical costs.  But many people are asking, “Exactly what is ergonomics and what can it do for me?”. Ergonomics is essentially fitting the workplace to the worker.  It involves the application of knowledge about human capacities and limitations to the design of workplaces, jobs, tasks, tools, equipment and the environment. This study aims to investigate the affect of comfort levels and risk factors on employees at workplace. The organization in which the present study was undertaken is APSRTC WORKSHOP, UPPAL, Hyd. There were 304 employees working in different sections of the Workshop. This study was conducted by reviewing related literature, available records, interviewing employees and by analyzing questionnaires distributed to the employees. Out of 304 workers 20 % of them i.e. (61) were selected randomly from each section by considering different job levels in the workshop.
