A Study on Socio-Economic Characteristics of Fisherman Community in Coastal Andhra Pradesh

In the state of Andhra Pradesh 14 Lakh people are employed directly or indirectly in this sector. Andhra Pradesh has nine Coastal Districts covering 974 Kms of coastline from Srikakulam to Nellore and owning rich marine resources. The state of Andhra Pradesh has nine coastal districts namely Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasham and Nellore. The study has been organized in all the nine coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh to analyze the socioeconomic profile of fishermen community. From each coastal district 50 fishermen were considered as sample respondents and the results were analyzed district wise individually as well as for Coastal Andhra Pradesh entirely.
