Dr. Wahab Akanmu Aboyade, Prof. Sunday Olanrewaju Popoola

The paper seeks to determine the influence of job motivation and emotional intelligence on job performance of library personnel in federal university libraries in Nigeria. Two questions were answered and three null hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance in the study. Six hundred and seventy nine (679) librarians and library officers working in 25 federal university libraries spread across six geo-political zones of Nigeria were involved in the study. The three hypotheses were found to be significant and so rejected. The findings show that job performance correlated significantly with job motivation and emotional intelligence of library personnel in federal university libraries in Nigeria. The paper concludes that, efficient and effective library services to users are contingent upon good job performance among the library personnel. The paper gives far reaching recommendations on the need to put in place appropriate motivational strategies by the management of the various university libraries in Nigeria so as to have a devoted workforce that can bring about the realization of the vision and mission of the parent institutions.
