Wave Particle Duality of Light

RUPALEE JAISHWAL

Abstract

When concept of indivisible particles was proposed, everything including light was assumed to be made up of indivisible particles. However, when Rene Descartes argued otherwise, he opened a can of worms and people kept on arguing either ways about the nature of light.

The first theories were given by Newton and Huygens which supported corpuscular and wave theory respectively. They both seemed equally good, but newer phenomenon observed supported wave nature. But photo electric effect again highlighted ambiguity which eventually led to development of quantum physics.
